Dangjin City Launches AI-Based Child Growth Management Program... First in Chungnam
One Elementary School Selected
Prevention and Management of Obesity and Short Stature
The Dangjin City Public Health Center in Chungnam has selected one elementary school as a pilot school?the first in Chungnam?to operate an artificial intelligence (AI) child growth management program capable of predicting growth for 624 students in grades 1 to 3, from the 24th of this month until December.
According to the city on the 24th, the child growth management program utilizes information and communication technology (ICT) to conduct physical measurements two to three times a year, assessing each student's height, weight, body mass index (BMI), growth score, and other indicators of physical development.
After measurement, the data is provided to students and parents through the 'Smart Health Keeper' app, allowing them to continuously monitor and manage the child's health status.

Through the analysis of 51 individual body composition indicators obtained from physical measurements, the program aims to provide key information about children's bodies and health during their growth period, thereby preventing and managing issues such as obesity and short stature. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle habits, and to encourage their practice.
An official from the public health center stated, "We will strive to foster an environment where students, the future leaders, can grow up safely and healthily by encouraging continuous interest in health among students and parents, helping to establish proper health management habits, and facilitating the early detection and management of short stature and childhood obesity during the growth period."
