Gimpo-si Regularizes Integrated Public Relations Meetings for Overcoming Communication Crisis
City Council Completely Cuts Publicity Budget... Six Public Institutions Work Together to Minimize Communication Gap
Regular Meetings Resume to Establish Unified and Integrated Publicity System
Citizens’ Perception of Communication Absence Grows as Supplementary Budget Is Also Cut
City Official: "We Await the City Council’s Responsibility and Alternatives for Normalizing Citizen Communication"
Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byung-su) announced on the 24th that it held an integrated publicity meeting on the 21st by gathering publicity officers and major issue departments from six public institutions within Gimpo, and plans to make this a regular event.
This is a measure to minimize the communication gap as the Gimpo City Council completely cut the publicity budget for citizen communication, blocking or reducing communication channels, which has increased citizens' perception of the lack of communication.
Accordingly, the city plans to resume the integrated meetings of public institutions within the jurisdiction that were held immediately after the launch of the 8th term of the civil government, and actively work on sharing channels held by each institution, strengthening publicity capabilities, and establishing an integrated publicity system. To this end, it will analyze the channels of the six institutions and actively promote efficient publicity.
Since the publicity budget has been cut, making communication related to the entire city administration difficult, the city plans to collaborate closely with the six public institutions within the jurisdiction to share channels held by each institution, jointly plan publicity for major issues, and discuss improvements in publicity.
Although the six public institutions have made many efforts and achievements in various fields, this can be an opportunity to compensate for the lack of public awareness due to factors such as budget and manpower shortages.
A Gimpo City official stated, “We believe that doing our best according to the situation is the way for the citizens. If the city and the public institutions within the jurisdiction form a one team and improve work efficiency, it is expected that the damage to citizens caused by the current communication crisis will be minimized. However, for citizen communication to normalize, the city council, which usually emphasized communication, should take a responsible attitude and present alternatives regarding the reality of the city administration’s communication crisis.”
