View original imageDuring the meeting, which was also attended by Choi Doseong, President of Handong Global University, and Kim Aram, Professor of the Department of Life Science at Handong Global University, participants shared examples of Israel's startup growth and discussed ways for Pohang City and Israel to achieve mutual growth in the future.
Former Ambassador Haim Hoshen, who visited Pohang City on this day, is a leading East Asia expert in Israel and served as the Israeli Ambassador to Korea from 2016 to 2020.
Notably, he received an honorary doctorate from Handong Global University and, during the Pohang earthquake in 2017, supported local disaster victims by providing goods worth $10,000 through the Israeli Embassy in Korea, maintaining a meaningful connection with Pohang.
Recently, he has been dedicated to connecting Israel, which possesses world-class know-how in tech venture startups, with young entrepreneurs in the Pohang region.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Former Ambassador Haim Hoshen is a rare example of a foreign diplomat in Korea who has shown unwavering affection for Pohang," and added, "I hope that opportunities for collaboration with Israel's advanced tech ventures will continue by utilizing Pohang's industrial infrastructure, which is currently striving for new industrial transformation."
Former Ambassador Haim Hoshen said, "I will actively work to facilitate exchanges between Pohang City and regions in Israel where effective partnerships with national venture centers are anticipated."

During his tenure as Israeli Ambassador to Korea, Haim Hoshen signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Handong Global University and the prestigious Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and contributed to the establishment of the Handong Global Center, a venture research facility within Hebrew University.
