On the 19th, the National Police Agency announced that traffic safety education for test drivers of autonomous vehicles will be made mandatory.
Previously, there was no mandatory education, but this aims to enhance understanding of the technical characteristics of autonomous vehicles and enable quick response to unpredictable situations. Test drivers must complete regular education before operating an autonomous vehicle with a temporary operation permit and every two years thereafter.
The traffic safety education for test drivers will be conducted as a total of 3 hours of online training, organized by the Korea Road Traffic Authority. The curriculum includes ▲laws related to autonomous vehicles ▲traffic safety precautions for autonomous vehicles ▲driver compliance requirements for safe autonomous vehicle operation ▲and other necessary knowledge for safe autonomous vehicle operation.
