Gwangju Nam-gu Offers Free Books for Preschool Children
Gwangju Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 17th that it will implement the Book Start Book Package Project to promote a family-based reading culture and help preschool children develop reading habits.
The district will distribute age-appropriate book packages at its four public libraries?Munhwa Information Library, Pureungil Library, Youth Library, and Hyocheon Eoullim Library?starting from the 18th.
The book packages are organized into sets for infants aged 0-18 months, toddlers aged 19-35 months, and children aged 36 months to pre-school age. Each package includes a finger puppet, a sketchbook, and a picture puzzle tailored to each age group.
The book packages will be distributed free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 18th until all sets are gone. Residents can visit their nearest public library, submit an application form, and receive a package. However, residents must bring a certificate of residence to verify their address in the district when visiting the library in order to receive the package.
A district official said, "Since the book packages are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, we urge residents who need them to visit the public libraries as soon as possible."
