View original imageWith the registration for candidates in the April 2nd by-elections closing on the 14th, it has been confirmed that two candidates have registered for the Damyang County Governor re-election in Jeonnam, and six candidates have registered across three constituencies for basic council member elections.
According to the National Election Commission, two candidates have entered the Damyang County Governor re-election, confirming a head-to-head race: Lee Jaejong (49), former Blue House administrator from the Democratic Party of Korea, and Jeong Cheolwon (62), chairman of the Damyang County Council from the National Innovation Party.
Candidate Lee reported completing his military service as an Army sergeant and declared no criminal record. He reported assets of approximately 916 million KRW, including a 909 million KRW private bond and 12,000 shares of unlisted stock in Jangchun Industry (valued at 12 million KRW).
Candidate Jeong was exempted from service after re-examination following his enlistment as an active-duty soldier and disclosed a criminal record for violating the Forest Resources Act with a 1 million KRW fine. He reported assets of approximately 1.029 billion KRW.
For the basic council member by-elections in Jeonnam, three candidates registered in Gwangyang, one in Damyang, and two in Goheung. In the Gwangyang D constituency, candidates registered are Lee Donkyun (58) from the Democratic Party, Lim Giju (30) from the Progressive Party, and Park Jongyeol (52) from the Liberty Unification Party. In the Damyang Ra constituency, Democratic Party candidate Noh Daehyun (62) is running unopposed, and in the Goheung Ga constituency, Democratic Party candidate Kim Dongkwi (62) and independent candidate Kim Jaeyeol (62) have registered.
Official campaigning for the April 2nd by-elections will begin on the 20th, with early voting taking place on the 28th and 29th, and the main vote to be held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the 2nd of next month.
Meanwhile, a live debate inviting candidates for the Damyang County Governor re-election is scheduled to be broadcast from 1:55 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. on the 25th at the public hall on the second floor of Gwangju MBC.
