"Coordination Underway for Korea-China-Japan Trade Ministers Meeting in Seoul on 29-30"
Kyodo News Reports Citing Diplomatic Sources
The Korea-China-Japan Trade Ministers' Meeting is being coordinated to be held in Seoul on the 29th to 30th of this month, Kyodo News reported on the 14th. The last Korea-China-Japan Trade Ministers' Meeting was held in December 2019 in Beijing, China.
If the meeting takes place as scheduled, An Deok-geun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, and Yoji Muto, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, are expected to attend. However, Kyodo News reported that the Chinese attendees are not yet confirmed. At the 2019 meeting, the Vice Minister of Commerce of China attended.
Kyodo News mentioned that the purpose of this meeting is "to reaffirm the promotion of free trade in East Asia amid concerns over rising protectionism such as tariff increases by the Donald Trump administration in the United States."

It also noted that "the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), involving the three countries and 15 countries including Southeast Asian nations, came into effect in 2022," and anticipated that the necessity of a Korea-China-Japan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and cooperation measures to strengthen supply chains may also be discussed.
