Kim Jaeseop "If Rebellion Confirmed, Disband People Power Party?…If Lee Jae-myung Guilty, Democratic Party Should Also Be Disbanded"
Signs of the Democratic Party Pushing for New Grounds for Party Dissolution Trials
Kim Jaeseop: "They Seem Anxious... The More Urgent, the More Careful They Should Be"
"Let's Add a Clause to Dissolve the Democratic Party That Created a 'Bulletproof National Assembly'"
The Democratic Party of Korea is pushing a bill that requires the political party of a president confirmed guilty of treason to face party dissolution trials. In response, Kim Jaeseop, a member of the People Power Party, pointed out, "If Lee Jae-myung is confirmed guilty, dissolve the Democratic Party as well." On the 13th, Kim posted on his social media account, quoting an article about the Democratic Party's bill push, saying, "They seem quite anxious in many ways, but the more urgent it is, the more they need to practice thinking and speaking carefully."
Kim said, "Was the Democratic Party the only one who climbed over the wall on the night of December 3rd to participate in the vote to lift martial law? The People Power Party also opposed martial law and actually participated in the vote to lift it," adding, "It is impossible to lump the entire ruling party as accomplices to treason from the start. Those who prematurely got scared and removed 'treason' from the presidential impeachment motion are now using the excuse that the ruling party colluded in treason to dissolve it."
He argued, "If Lee Jae-myung's criminal charges are confirmed guilty, how about adding a clause to dissolve the Democratic Party, which has been fiercely shouting 'Lee Jae-myung is innocent' and creating a bulletproof National Assembly?" He also claimed, "Looking at what the Democratic Party is doing these days, they might even fall under the crime of organizing a criminal group."
On the same day, it was reported that Park Hong-geun, a Democratic Party lawmaker, plans to propose a bill that requires the political party of a sitting president confirmed guilty of treason or foreign exchange crimes to face party dissolution trials. Currently, the Constitutional Court Act stipulates that "when the purpose or activities of a political party violate the democratic basic order, the government may request party dissolution trials," and this bill aims to add grounds for such requests.

In an interview with Kukmin Ilbo, Park said, "If it is confirmed that the president committed serious crimes such as treason or foreign exchange offenses, but the political party acts as if nothing happened, that would be irresponsible," adding, "The political party should also bear joint responsibility." Lee Jae-myung also stated last December, "If the party systematically participated in acts disturbing the national order, it is precedent that this constitutes grounds for party dissolution as an unconstitutional party."
