Daejeon City Launches Full-Scale Task Forces for Each University Aiming for Glocal University Selection
TF Team Meetings for Five University Support Teams to Be Held by the 19th
The Daejeon Metropolitan Government announced that it has formed and begun full-scale operations of university-specific TF (Task Force) teams with the goal of being selected for the Glocal University program.
The TF teams serve as dedicated organizations for preparing innovation plans and supporting the selection process for each university. The teams are organized as follows: the Chungnam National University + Gongju National University support team, the Hannam University support team, the Mokwon University + Paichai University + Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology support team, the Hanbat National University support team, and the Woosong University support team, making a total of five university support teams and one general team, with 46 members in total.
Meetings for each university's TF team will be held in the following order: starting with the Hannam University support team on the 7th, the Chungnam National University + Gongju National University support team on the 10th, the Mokwon University + Paichai University + Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology support team on the 11th, the Hanbat National University support team on the 13th, and the Woosong University support team on the 19th.
During the meetings, participants discuss the direction of establishing innovation plans for each university and support measures for each institution, seeking practical ways to prepare robust innovation plans and build an organic cooperation system.
In particular, universities that narrowly missed selection in the 2024 main evaluation are focusing on supplementing and improving their shortcomings based on comprehensive evaluation feedback, aiming to prepare even more complete innovation plans.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Government plans to operate a general team to provide continuous support to each university's TF team, and its strategy is to further increase the chances of being selected for the Glocal University program through tailored, hands-on support.
The Glocal University 30 project aims to foster 30 world-class local universities (Global + Local, Glocal) by 2025. Selected universities will receive up to 100 billion KRW in national funding over five years (up to 150 billion KRW for integrated universities). The Ministry of Education selected 10 universities each in 2023 and 2024, and plans to designate up to 10 additional universities this year to conclude the project.
Ko Hyundeok, Director of Education Policy and Strategy at the Daejeon Metropolitan Government, said, "As this year's Glocal University designation project comes to a close, we will do our best to ensure that as many universities in the Daejeon region as possible are selected."
