An Average of 238 Students Used the Program Daily Last Year
"2,000 Won Dinner" Available During Exam Periods
Kyungpook National University will operate the "1,000 Won Breakfast" program for the 2025 academic year until December 19. For the first time this year, the 1,000 Won Breakfast will also be offered during the summer vacation. During midterm and final exam periods, a 2,000 Won dinner will be available.
Since the second semester of 2021, Kyungpook National University has been running the "1,000 Won Breakfast" program with support from the government and Daegu City. Last year, a total of 36,616 people used the service, which averages to about 238 students having breakfast each day.
The "1,000 Won Breakfast" is available at the Cheomseong cafeteria on the first floor of the university welfare building. The menu mainly consists of simple yet nutritionally balanced Korean dishes, and students only need to pay 1,000 won.
This year, with support from the development fund (1,000 Won Meal Fund) of iM Bank, the region's leading bank, the program period has been extended to include the vacation period. The program will run from March 4 to June 20 for the first semester, from June 30 to August 14 for the summer vacation, and from September 1 to December 19 for the second semester.
Kyungpook National University President Heo Youngwoo stated, "Starting this year, we are offering the 1,000 Won Breakfast during the summer vacation so that students can enjoy a healthy breakfast without burden even during the break. We will continue to expand various programs to improve student welfare."
