Yangpyeong Holds the 106th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony
Residents Reaffirm the Spirit of Independence and Express Gratitude to Patriots
Commemorative Performances and Awards Presented to Descendants of Independence Activists
On the 1st, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced that it held the 106th March 1st Movement Anniversary Ceremony at the Mulbit Theater of Yangpyeong Library, attended by about 200 people including the Korean Liberation Association Yangpyeong Branch, families of independence activists, veterans' organizations, and residents.

View original imageThe event proceeded in the order of the national ceremony, viewing of the video of the Declaration of Independence reading and introduction of independence activists, awarding of meritorious persons, commemorative performances, commemorative speeches, singing of the March 1st Movement song, and three cheers for independence.
In particular, this event produced and unveiled for the first time to the residents a video of the fourth verse of the national anthem featuring the beautiful scenes of every corner of Yangpyeong under the slogan "Beautiful Country, Beautiful Yangpyeong." While singing the national anthem along with the video capturing the previously unknown landscapes of Yangpyeong-gun, all Yangpyeong residents reaffirmed their will to carry on the spirit of independence of the patriotic martyrs. It also served as an opportunity to express gratitude for the freedom and independence gained through the dedication of independence activists who sacrificed to pass on the beautiful land to future generations.
The ceremony was attended by 35 descendants of Yangpyeong’s independence patriots, and awards were presented to Kang Sang-myeon Kim Yong-bun, grandson of independence patriot Kim Young-hee, and Yanghak-gu from Yangseo-myeon, grandson of independence patriot Yeo Gwang-hyun.
In the subsequent commemorative performance, the Yangpyeong Cultural Center Women’s Choir sang songs of hope fitting the theme "Beautiful Country, Beautiful Yangpyeong." They cultivated the spirit of hope for independence and national unity with "Nella Fantasia," "Beautiful Country," and "Marching Song," and the Deoulrim Ensemble concluded by performing "Arirang," conveying a message of determination and hope for the anti-Japanese movement.
Governor Jeon Jin-seon of Yangpyeong said in his commemorative speech, "If we remember Yangpyeong’s past, love the present, and steadfastly move forward for the future of Yangpyeong, the dream of developing Yangpyeong will be realized bigger and stronger," adding, "We will leap into the era of Attractive Yangpyeong by inheriting the unyielding will and firm spirit of the independence activists."

Additionally, the Yangpyeong Cultural Center Women’s Choir, the president of the Liberation Association, the governor, members of the National Assembly, the chairman of the county council, provincial councilors, and county councilors all went up on stage together to sing the March 1st Movement song, wave the Taegeukgi, and shout three cheers for independence in unison with the attendees, once again reflecting on the significance of the March 1st Movement.
