The meeting was seen as an opportunity for Gimpo City to establish a foundation for communication and cooperation with retired public officials for regional development, as various opinions for the development of Gimpo City were exchanged.
At the roundtable meeting, which listened to various opinions for administrative development and sought cooperation measures, Mayor Kim Byung-su emphasized the need to build an urban brand utilizing Gimpo’s historical and cultural resources. He cited examples such as ‘Jagwangmi,’ reflecting Gimpo’s identity, the restoration of the pear blossom fields in Ihwa-ri, and the ‘Dadam Festival,’ which introduced an axe festival that modernly reinterprets the memorial appeal of Chungbong Jo Heon.
Mayor Kim Byung-su stated, “We must actively utilize the resources unique to us not only to improve the convenience of life for Gimpo citizens but also to strengthen urban competitiveness,” emphasizing the tourism resource development plan using Aegibong, which offers a view of North Korea, and Daemyeong Port, a national fishing port. He also mentioned the necessity of preserving Gimpo’s history by leaving the paths walked by public officials as assets.
At the meeting, members of the Administrative Alumni Association proposed various ideas for the development of Gimpo City based on their public service experience. Key suggestions included ▲creating a waterway city and cultural infrastructure within the Gimpo Hangang 2 Compact City ▲addressing concerns about the deterioration of Pungmu-dong adjacent to Geomdan New Town ▲requesting the construction of a cultural ecology museum ▲promoting international exchanges with Indonesia.
In response, Mayor Kim Byung-su expressed his intention to “actively utilize rivers and waterways to create a waterfront city not only in the Compact City but also in the Daegot Gimpo Environmental Regeneration Innovation Complex,” confirmed the extension of Seoul Subway Line 5 for the development of Pungmu-dong, and announced plans to include Seoul Subway Line 2 in the 5th Metropolitan Transportation Implementation Plan. Regarding international exchanges, he explained, “Following the sister city relationship with Thu Duc City in Vietnam, we are promoting a sisterhood with Serbia.”
President Yoo Young-beom requested, “Please provide more opportunities for retired public officials to participate in various activities such as committees so that their administrative experience and wisdom can contribute to the development of Gimpo City.” Mayor Kim Byung-su responded, “Since the related ordinance has been prepared, we will actively collect opinions from retired public officials and reflect them in city administration.”
