Damyang County Accelerates Phase 2 General Industrial Complex Development Project
760,000 Square Meters of Green Belt to Be Lifted
“Creating Damyang-Style Jobs”
Damyang County, South Jeolla Province, announced on the 25th that the Second General Industrial Complex Development Project has been selected as a National and Regional Strategic Project for Green Belt Areas (hereinafter referred to as GB Regional Strategic Project).
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the final selection results on this day, following deliberations by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the Cabinet meeting in February this year. The GB Regional Strategic Project is a regulatory innovation measure for green belt areas announced at the “Public Policy Forum with the People” held by the government in February last year. It aims to lift green belt restrictions in prime locations near large cities to overcome the risk of regional extinction and revitalize the local economy.
The county applied for the “Damyang Second General Industrial Complex Development Project” as a GB Regional Strategic Project to foster future growth industries and create an industrial environment attractive to investors, with the goal of building a vibrant economic city.
The Damyang Second General Industrial Complex is a project to secure new growth engines for the region and create Damyang-style jobs by attracting key government strategic industries, such as advanced parts and materials, to approximately 760,000 square meters (230,000 pyeong) in Bongsan-myeon. The county expects the total project cost of 191.2 billion won will generate an economic ripple effect of 234.6 billion won.
If selected as a GB Regional Strategic Project, exceptions can be granted for the most challenging aspects of lifting green belt restrictions, such as the total area limit and environmental assessment grade standards. This is expected to accelerate the project through the lifting of green belt restrictions and the designation of the industrial complex.
Jung Gwangsun, acting county governor, emphasized, “We will focus our administrative efforts on implementing this project to create Damyang-style jobs, drive local economic development, and secure future growth engines for the region.”
