View original imageDamyang County in Jeollanam-do is implementing a support project for Happy Learning Centers (hereinafter referred to as "centers") to create a lifelong learning environment in the region and to vitalize resident-led learning communities.
The centers serve as village-level lifelong learning spaces that guarantee residents' access to education close to home. Through "Happy Learning Managers" (local activists who act as communication channels for residents and as center administrators), the centers provide lifelong learning programs tailored to residents' needs.
This project supports the operation of lifelong education programs by providing subsidies of up to 8 million KRW per center to village or apartment organizations, institutions, or groups that have educational facilities capable of accommodating at least 15 learners. A total of four centers (one for people with disabilities and three for the general public) will be supported.
Organizations wishing to participate can download the application form from the Damyang County website or the Damyang County Lifelong Learning Information Center notice board and submit it by mail or in person to the Humanities and Education Team of the Damyang County Administration Department by March 7.
Jeong Gwangseon, acting governor of the county, stated, "We will spare no effort in supporting Damyang to become a lifelong learning city where residents can enjoy the joy of learning and sharing."
Meanwhile, Damyang County was selected as an "Excellent City/County" for three consecutive years in the lifelong education performance evaluation conducted among 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, thanks to its operation of various lifelong education programs last year.
