Additionally, through a communication session with current industry professionals, they enhanced their overall understanding of the secondary battery industry and strengthened their job competencies.
On the 12th, 60 trainees from the 1st batch of the Southern Region Education Program conducted a field trip to Ecopro, a leading company in secondary battery cathode materials. Besides the field visit, the trainees had a Q&A session with practitioners, gaining various information useful for employment and future planning.
The Korea Battery Academy is a project established to nurture workforce for the battery industry, supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and Pohang City. Pohang Technopark, Pohang Materials Industry Promotion Agency, and Korea Polytechnic University Pohang Campus have formed a consortium to operate the education program. The goal is to cultivate over 1,700 talents by 2028 and expand the secondary battery industry workforce through various employment linkage programs.
Recently, Pohang City has been promoting various supports through the ‘Pohang-type Youth New Deal POBATT Project’ to enable young people to receive education related to the battery industry and settle stably in the region. This support aims to help the local secondary battery industry overcome the ‘chasm’ crisis and establish itself as a core regional industry.
Byung-ho Bae, Director of Pohang Technopark, stated, “To strengthen the competitiveness of the battery industry, it is essential to nurture practical talents who can be immediately utilized on-site. We will do our best to secure key talents leading the battery industry by further expanding cooperation with leading secondary battery companies in the region and strengthening field-centered education.”
