Dong-A University Ssireum Team Wins Team Championship at 'Samcheok Jeongwol Daeboreumje National University Ssireum Championship'
New Coach Ha Sung-woo Leads Team to Victory in Debut Tournament
Three Gold Medals Won in Individual Events
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 20th that its sports team Ssireum Club achieved the great feat of winning the team championship at the ‘2025 Samcheok Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival University Champion Ssireum Competition’.

View original imageDong-A University Ssireum Club demonstrated its strength by winning the gold medal in the university division team event held over two days on the 13th and 14th at the Samcheok Gymnasium in Gangwon, as well as securing 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals in the individual events.
Notably, this achievement was made in the first competition under the direction of newly appointed coach Ha Sung-woo (Class of 1996, Department of Physical Education, Dong-A University).
In the university division team final, Dong-A University Ssireum Club reached the top by defeating Ulsan University 4-3.
The team event held on the first day applied a method of drawing lots to determine the order of participation, making the matches even more exciting. In the History Class (under 105kg), Dong-A University conceded the first win to Ulsan University, but in the Jangsa Class (under 140kg), player Jang Min-su (4th year, Department of Physical Education) secured a victory to even the score.
Subsequently, in the Gyeongjang Class (under 75kg), Dong-A University’s Lee Si-won (4th year, Department of Physical Education) earned a win, but they lost in the Sojang Class (under 80kg), tying the score at 2-2. In the following Cheongjang Class (under 85kg), Dong-A University was overtaken by Ulsan University, but in the Yongjang Class (under 90kg), Dong-A University’s Park Seong-beom (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) tied the score at 3-3, bringing the match back to even.
In the final Yongsang Class (under 95kg) match, Dong-A University’s Kim Min-gyu (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) won, securing the championship with a final score of 4-3.
On the following day’s individual events, Dong-A University players also performed well by winning gold medals in three weight classes. Jeong Seong-jae (2nd year, Department of Physical Education) in the Sojang Class, Kim Seong-guk (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) in the Cheongjang Class, and Park Seong-beom (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) in the Yongjang Class reached the top.
In the Jangsa Class, player Jang Min-su (4th year, Department of Physical Education) won the silver medal, while Kim Min-gyu (3rd year, Department of Physical Education) in the Yongsang Class, Jang Hee-jae (2nd year, Department of Physical Education) in the Gyeongjang Class, and Song Hyun-ho (1st year, Department of Physical Education) in the Yongjang Class earned bronze medals.
