Through this agreement, Pohang City, the Pohang City Eup/Myeon/Dong Community Security Council, and funeral service providers located in the Pohang area will cooperate to build a public funeral support system to assist funerals for low-income families and unclaimed deceased persons.
According to the agreement, Pohang City will be responsible for administrative tasks such as securing the budget necessary for public funerals, supporting funeral expenses, identifying relatives, and deciding on public funerals.
Funeral service providers will handle funeral procedures such as encoffining, placing remains in columbariums, and setting up mourning rooms, while the Pohang City Eup/Myeon/Dong Community Security Council will support the role of the bereaved family and memorial ceremonies.
Pohang City's public funeral support targets unclaimed deceased individuals and cases where relatives exist but refuse or avoid receiving the body due to unavoidable reasons such as family relationship breakdowns or economic difficulties, providing support within 200% of the basic livelihood security recipient funeral allowance.
Support includes costs for corpse examination, mourning room rental fees, hearse vehicle fees, and cremation expenses. In cooperation with local funeral homes, the project will facilitate smooth funeral proceedings and, led by the Eup/Myeon/Dong Community Security Council, will organize memorial ceremonies conducted in a manner that respects human dignity.
