Up to 10% Discount 'Jiyeoksarang Gift Certificate' Issued Late by Seodaemun-gu
Unable to Issue Due to District Council Deadlock
First Round Issuance Begins at 10 a.m. on the 25th of This Month
Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) will issue the mobile Seodaemun Love Gift Certificate, which offers up to a 10% discount, starting at 10 a.m. on the 25th of this month to boost sales for small business owners and revitalize the local economy through increased consumption within the community.
Earlier, most of Seoul’s autonomous districts issued local love gift certificates ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday last month, but Seodaemun-gu was unable to issue them due to a quasi-budget system implemented following a breakdown in the district council caused by the sudden approval of the budget bill.
When the district council did not hold the scheduled extraordinary session this month and rejected the request for reconsideration of the budget bill, the district office decided to execute this year’s budget independently, leading to the belated issuance of the gift certificates.
The Seodaemun Love Gift Certificate can be purchased online through the Seoul Pay Plus (SeoulPay+) app at a 5% discount off the face value, up to 500,000 KRW per person per month (for example, paying 475,000 KRW for a 500,000 KRW gift certificate). The maximum holding limit is 1,500,000 KRW.
Additionally, a ‘Payback Event’ will be held until the budget is exhausted, returning 5% of the amount spent using the district’s gift certificate as Seodaemun Love Gift Certificates the following month, raising the final discount rate to 10%. If payments are made with Seodaemun Love Gift Certificates issued after April last year on or after the 25th of this month, a 5% refund will be given, allowing consumers to receive a 10% discount.
This gift certificate can be used at approximately 75,000 Seoul Pay Plus affiliated stores within Seodaemun-gu. However, it cannot be used at large stores, gambling-related businesses, or private academies with annual sales exceeding 3 billion KRW.
