This initiative aims to ensure the systematic protection and utilization of anti-Japanese independence heritage.
The province plans to establish a foundation for inheriting intangible cultural heritage by discovering and documenting relevant sites and strengthening cooperation with local residents.
In particular, to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, Jeollanam-do intends to designate anti-Japanese heritage that embodies the spirit of the nation and actively promote it, so that residents can feel a sense of historical pride.
Jeollanam-do will identify candidate sites through public submissions from cities, counties, and residents until March 31, and will operate the 'Jeollanam-do Anti-Japanese Independence Heritage Designation Review Committee' composed of ten internal and external experts.
The review committee will classify anti-Japanese independence heritage into anti-Japanese historic sites, facilities, and relics, and will conduct investigations and excavations. The Provincial Heritage Committee will then review and deliberate on the designation of these sites.
Currently, among anti-Japanese independence heritage, the Hwasun Ssangsan Anti-Japanese Militia Historic Site has been designated as a national historic site, and the Naju Station, which supported the Gwangju Student Movement, has been designated as a Jeollanam-do monument.
Kang Hyoseok, Director of the Culture Promotion Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, "In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the value and significance contained in the province's cultural heritage related to the independence movement will be highlighted," adding, "We will do our utmost to systematically preserve and utilize these sites so that residents and future generations can feel a sense of historical pride."
