View original imageChungnam Province announced that it will actively foster the marine industry, which holds infinite opportunities and potential in areas such as marine tourism, bio, and energy, by investing 13.6 trillion KRW over the next 10 years starting this year.
On the afternoon of the 19th, the province held the final report meeting for the “2025-2035 Chungnam Province Marine Industry Development Comprehensive Plan Establishment Service” in the provincial government’s small conference room, attended by Jeon Sangwook, Director of the Provincial Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau, relevant department heads, experts, and representatives from the service agency, totaling about 10 people.
This report meeting, organized to gather expert opinions before the final confirmation at the end of this month, included a presentation by Lee Jua, Senior Researcher at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, the service agency, on Chungnam Province’s vision for fostering the marine industry and 21 action tasks under five major strategies. The meeting also covered the prioritization of projects and policy proposals.
The five major strategies for fostering the marine industry are: ▲Sea of Life: Creating a clean and healthy marine environment ▲Sea of Economy: Building a profitable marine living zone ▲Sea of Dynamism: Becoming a hub for marine leisure and tourism ▲Sea of Innovation: Leading integrated marine and fisheries technology projects ▲Sea of the Future: Revitalizing the regional economy through port development.
Major projects and budgets include: ▲Restoration of the marine ecosystem and establishment of blue carbon, 1.1504 trillion KRW ▲Restructuring fishing villages with support for smart aquaculture and returning to fishing villages, 1.5807 trillion KRW ▲Establishment of a marine leisure and tourism city, 5.4693 trillion KRW ▲Construction of hydrogen offshore wind power ports in Boryeong, Dangjin, and Taean, 1.3909 trillion KRW ▲Development of Asan Port as a multifunctional complex port, 1.5947 trillion KRW, among others.
The province plans to incorporate the expert advice and various tasks derived from this report meeting into the comprehensive plan by the end of this month and to prepare an effective implementation plan to propose to central government ministries.
Jeon Sangwook, Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau, said, “We must establish Chungnam’s unique specialized strategic projects that actively utilize the province’s abundant marine resources and locational advantages,” and added, “We will do our best to commercialize the core tasks as quickly as possible.”
