Gyeonggi Tourism Organization Signs 'DMZ Tourism Revitalization' Agreement with 25 Travel Agencies
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization is set to actively promote the ‘DMZ Tourism Revitalization’ project.
On the 19th, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 18th with 25 major domestic inbound travel agencies to revitalize DMZ tourism.
According to the agreement, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization will develop and operate stay-type DMZ tourism products linked to the Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site and actively attract foreign tourists.
Since the Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site was converted to a direct management system by the organization in April last year, it has developed DMZ tourism products linked to the camping site to provide ‘more equitable travel opportunities’ for socially vulnerable groups and to address the shortage of accommodation infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi. Last year, it attracted about 1,200 foreign tourists. The target for this year is around 2,000.

It will enhance convenience by installing new tarp zones within the camping site and create a pleasant environment through facility improvements.
Additionally, various linked programs to revitalize the local economy will be promoted. Visitors to the camping site will have opportunities to experience local specialties and actively utilize the local commercial district. Various cooperative projects will be pursued in connection with local small business owners and farms to maximize the effect of attracting tourists.
Furthermore, the organization will strengthen the attraction of school groups, including youth students, to provide opportunities for nature experiences and establish the site as a space that simultaneously fulfills educational value and leisure.
