Taiwan Semiconductor Production Value Grew 22% Last Year... TSMC as the Leading Contributor
Taiwanese Media Report on Government Statistics
Semiconductor Industry Production Value Surpasses 5 Trillion New Taiwan Dollars for the First Time
TSMC Leads Growth; Outlook for 2025 Remains Positive
Last year, Taiwan's semiconductor industry production value grew by 22% compared to the previous year, reaching 5.3151 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 234 trillion Korean won). TSMC, Taiwan's export powerhouse, was the main contributor. Taiwan's semiconductor industry is expected to continue its growth this year, with production value surpassing 6 trillion New Taiwan dollars.
Taiwanese media outlets such as Liberty Times and Commercial Times reported on the 18th, citing recent statistics from the Industrial Economics & Knowledge Center (IEK) under Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, stating that Taiwan's semiconductor industry production value exceeded 5 trillion New Taiwan dollars for the first time last year.
According to IEK, last year, the total production value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry?including integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing, design, packaging, and testing?was 5.3151 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 234 trillion Korean won), a 22.4% increase from the previous year.
By sector, manufacturing had the highest production value at 3.4195 trillion New Taiwan dollars and also the highest growth rate at 28.4%. Design increased by 16% to 1.2721 trillion New Taiwan dollars. Packaging (423.3 billion New Taiwan dollars) and testing (200.2 billion New Taiwan dollars) grew by 7.7% and 5%, respectively.
In particular, foundry production, including TSMC?the largest foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) company in the world and the biggest engine of Taiwan's semiconductor industry growth?grew sharply by 30.1% to 3.2438 trillion New Taiwan dollars compared to the previous year.
The outlook for 2025 is also bright. IEK forecasts that Taiwan's semiconductor industry production value this year will reach 6.1785 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 272 trillion Korean won), a 16.2% increase from last year.
The predicted production value growth rates by sector are manufacturing 19.4% (4.0827 trillion New Taiwan dollars), design 11.3% (1.4155 trillion New Taiwan dollars), packaging 8.9% (460.8 billion New Taiwan dollars), and testing 9.6% (219.5 billion New Taiwan dollars).
Especially, TSMC, which achieved total sales of 2.8943 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 127.5 trillion Korean won) last year, driven by strong performance in high-performance computing (HPC) and smart platforms, is expected to continue playing the role of growth engine this year.
