The ‘Major Curriculum Accreditation System’ is an internal accreditation established by Pukyong National University under the supervision of the Office of Educational Innovation (Director Won Yong-seon). It systematically evaluates items related to curriculum development and composition, curriculum operation and support, and curriculum evaluation and improvement.
The system aims to improve the quality of major education, which forms the foundation of university education, and to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between regional and major education required by initiatives such as the Glocal University and RISE projects.
Departments and majors participating in the accreditation system receive funding and additional points in department evaluations, and upon completion of accreditation, they are awarded a certificate and plaque signed by the university president. An accreditation mark is displayed on the diplomas of accredited departments and majors. Outstanding departments are also given monetary rewards.
Following the pilot project in 2023, in which four departments and majors were accredited, the full-scale implementation in 2024 saw 11 departments and majors receive accreditation plaques: Japanese Language and Literature Major, Japanese Studies Major, Social Welfare Major, International Regional Studies Division, Chinese Studies Department, Fire Protection Engineering Department, Marine and Fisheries Management Major, Food Engineering Major, Food and Nutrition Major, Media and Communication Major, and Information and Communication Engineering Major, bringing the total number of accredited departments and majors to 15.
