Suncheon City Announces 'Four Seasons Festival' Roadmap at Festival Committee
An Event Blending Nature, Economy, and People
Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 18th that it held the Suncheon City Festival Committee on the 17th, where it finalized and announced the direction and three main strategies for the 2025 four-season festivals.
At the committee meeting, the festival operation direction was discussed with core goals of revitalizing the local economy, promoting eco-friendly festivals, and creating synergy effects through the linkage of different festivals. Specific implementation plans were decided, including the establishment of a four-season festival system and the formation of the Suncheon City Festival Support Task Force.
The city plans to operate signature festivals that reflect the characteristics of each season?spring, summer, autumn, and winter?to establish a tourism infrastructure that encourages visitors to stay and enjoy Suncheon year-round.
During the spring (flower) season, the "Dongcheon Spring Festa" will be held. Starting with plum blossoms in March, followed by cherry blossoms in April and roses in May, Suncheon's spring flower resources will be combined with culinary and camping experiences such as "Suncheon Gourmet Week" and "Camping Green Island" to present a festival that fuses garden and ecological culture.
In the summer (night) season, the "Summer Night Three Colors Festival" will expand nighttime tourism programs to offer relief from the midsummer heat. Unique nighttime festivals will be held in areas such as Ocheon Green Square, Dongcheon, and the original downtown, including Beer Festa, Glow Festival, and Palma Cultural Festival, all combined with beautiful nightscapes.
For the autumn (taste) season, the "Suncheon Autumn Festa" will take place. Through events like the Suncheon Food & Art Festival, Ujang Gukbap Festival, and National Food Competition, the city will strengthen K-gastronomy content centered on local agricultural and specialty products as well as local food. In addition, by linking with the World Heritage Festival and Global Content Festival, a stay-type festival that blends Suncheon's autumn nature, food, and culture will be promoted.
During the winter (bird) season, a healing-type ecological festival will be organized under the theme "See, Hear, Walk: Ecological Travel," utilizing migratory birds such as the hooded crane and other winter birdlife and ecological resources of Suncheon Bay.
Plans are in place to expand ecological tourism festival content that highlights the value and significance of preserving Suncheon Bay's natural environment, including birdwatching trips, the Waon Sunset Event, Suncheon Bay Sound Walking, and walking programs along the Nampalang-gil Trail.
Additionally, a "Festival Support Task Force" will be formed with five specialized teams to establish a collaborative system for each field and ensure close communication among related departments.
Through this approach, the city aims to move away from individually managed festivals and instead pursue comprehensive planning and division of roles among departments to increase the scale and impact of festivals while reducing budget burdens and citizen fatigue for more efficient operations.
A city official stated, "We will not treat festivals as mere events, but as a driving force for a virtuous cycle of the local economy and tourism, revitalizing the entire city," and added, "Through sustainable festival operations that harmonize nature, people, and the community, we will establish Suncheon as a global ecological and cultural tourism city where visitors want to stay throughout all four seasons."
