Hampyeong County, Jeonnam Launches Support Project to Attract Young Population
Customized Employment Education for Local Talent
Comprehensive Support for Employment, Culture, and Marriage
Hampyeong County in Jeonnam is implementing youth support projects to attract young residents.
According to Hampyeong County and other sources on the 14th, as of the end of January, the youth population in Hampyeong County was 6,632, accounting for 22.2% of the total population.
To encourage the inflow of young people, Hampyeong County has designated youth as the core target of this year's population policy and is launching major new initiatives in addition to existing youth support projects.
By 2027, the county plans to invest over 3 billion KRW to create youth shared spaces tailored to local characteristics and provide customized programs through the “Happy Home Creation Project.”
Starting this year, the county will also implement the “Customized Employment Education Support Project for Local Talent,” which focuses on job counseling and fairs using professional counselors, as well as employment education programs tailored to the region, targeting high school students and other job seekers over the next four years.
Notably, the “Youth Street Campus Creation Project,” which provides up to 100 million KRW to aspiring young entrepreneurs and is one of the largest of its kind nationwide, is nearing completion this year. By the end of the year, more than 20 new youth startup stores are expected to open throughout the region.
Additionally, Hampyeong County is accelerating the implementation of existing projects.
Despite worsening financial conditions such as reduced grant taxes, the county has maintained the funding for the “Youth Couple Marriage Congratulations Support Project” (6 million KRW over three years) and the “Youth Culture and Welfare Card Support Project” (250,000 KRW per year) at last year's levels.
For the highly regarded Talent Development Scholarship, students who meet certain criteria receive full tuition coverage (actual payment amount) regardless of region, as well as an additional 1 million KRW per semester as a study encouragement stipend for living expenses.
Other projects to be announced in the first half of the year include: ▲Youth Long-term Employment Incentive Support Project (up to 20 million KRW over four years) ▲Youth Employee Housing Support Project (up to 200,000 KRW per month for up to 12 months) ▲Youth Culture and Welfare Card Support Project (250,000 KRW per year) ▲Youth Hope Stepping Stone Savings Account Project (an additional 100,000 KRW matched for every 100,000 KRW saved monthly) ▲Newlywed and Multi-child Family Housing Support Project (actual interest paid on home purchase loans, up to 250,000 KRW per month).
Lee Sangik, Mayor of Hampyeong County, stated, “Youth are the key to addressing low birth rates and an aging population,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to establish a foundation for youth independence by discovering new policies.”
