View original imageKim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, held a meeting on the morning of the 7th to discuss countermeasures against heavy snow and cold waves, and checked the situation in various areas such as road snow removal and protection of vulnerable groups. He also instructed the establishment of countermeasures for prolonged heavy snowfall and cold waves.
As of 9:30 a.m. that day, snow accumulation was recorded at 10.5 cm in Hampyeong-eup, 10.5 cm in Damyang-eup, and 10.0 cm in Geumcheon-myeon, Naju. From midnight, heavy snow advisories were issued for 16 cities and counties including Naju, Mokpo, and Gwangyang, and strong wind advisories were in effect for 8 cities and counties. The expected snowfall is projected to reach 1?5 cm on the eastern and southern coasts of Jeollanam-do and 5?20 cm in other areas of Jeollanam-do by the 8th. In particular, the west coast area is forecast to experience heavy snow accompanied by strong winds, requiring thorough preparation.
Since the 3rd, Jeollanam-do has been responding to the heavy snow and cold wave by deploying 999 pieces of equipment and 2,068 personnel to 1,860 road routes totaling 21,280 km in the province, spreading snow removal agents such as calcium chloride and salt.
Additionally, advance measures have been taken for each crop, such as maintaining drainage for barley and garlic, tying up cabbage heads, and removing shade nets from ginseng cultivation facilities. Regular inspections of electrical facilities in livestock barns are also underway.
A comprehensive low-temperature situation room is being operated 24 hours a day, with full efforts devoted to managing fish farms.
As a protection measure for 54,666 people vulnerable to cold waves, Jeollanam-do is operating cold wave shelters for easy access by the elderly living alone and other vulnerable groups, and has strengthened welfare services such as heating cost support and regular check-ins.
Governor Kim emphasized, "Heavy snow and cold waves have continued for five days. Such weather conditions can occur at any time, not just for one or two days but for three days or more of heavy snowfall. We must establish, inspect, and respond with solid countermeasures for prolonged heavy snow and cold waves."
