The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 6th that it has successfully secured the hosting rights for the ‘2028 Asia Pacific Microscopy Conference (The 14th Asia Pacific Microscopy Conference 2028, hereinafter APMC14)’ in collaboration with the Korean Society of Microscopy, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Convention Bureau, and Jeju International Convention Center.

View original imageThe Asia Pacific Microscopy Conference is an international academic conference that began in 1956 and is held every four years. Approximately 1,500 participants from about 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region attend. This will be the second time the APMC is held in Korea since 2008, and it is expected to generate an economic ripple effect of about 6.6 billion KRW.
The Organization, the Korean Society of Microscopy, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Convention Bureau, and Jeju International Convention Center?five institutions in total?formed a committee from the preparation stage to pool their efforts. The Organization supported the overall hosting activities of the Korean Society of Microscopy. Jeju Convention Bureau and Jeju International Convention Center provided multifaceted support, including preparing the hosting proposal and operating a promotional booth locally in Brisbane.
Korea was selected as the next host country due to its strengths such as MICE infrastructure and the status of research promotion and technological development in the relevant field. The Korean Society of Microscopy successfully hosted the 2023 International Microscopy Congress (IMC20) in Busan.

Jung Chang-wook, Head of the MICE Division at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, “The success in securing APMC14 is meaningful as it is the result of joint efforts not only by the hosting society but also by the Organization, local governments, and regional MICE dedicated organizations working together on the ground. The Organization is actively promoting support policies, such as increasing the international conference hosting support fund by 1.5 times until May this year, and will strengthen cooperation with related organizations to further strive to attract large-scale international conferences.”
