View original imageA nine-vehicle bus collision occurred in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, where a heavy snow advisory was in effect, leaving around 40 workers commuting home with moderate to serious injuries.
The accident happened at around 7:32 p.m. on the 27th on National Road No. 29 in Hwansung-ri, Jigok-myeon, Seosan, which connects to the Daesan Petrochemical Complex.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a commuter bus carrying shift workers from the Daesan Industrial Complex slipped and overturned on an icy road while heading toward Seosan. Eight other commuter buses following behind were then involved in a chain collision.
As a result of the accident, one bus driver sustained serious injuries, and 47 people were injured in total, but no fatalities were reported. The seriously injured and other victims were transported to nearby hospitals, including Seosan Medical Center and Jungang Hospital, for treatment.

View original imageFrom 5 p.m. that day, a heavy snow advisory was in effect in the Seosan area, with significant snowfall making the roads slippery. Heavy snow continued not only at the time of the accident but also on the 28th.
A police official stated, "A heavy snow advisory was issued for the western coastal areas of Chungcheong, including Seosan, Taean, and Dangjin, and a lot of snow fell." He added, "Since temperatures are expected to drop further and snow is forecast to continue on Lunar New Year's Day tomorrow, we urge everyone to drive with extra caution."
The police are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident by questioning the commuter bus drivers and eyewitnesses.
