The Gwangju History and Folk Museum announced on the 27th that it will hold the "Lunar New Year Festival" on the 29th and 30th at the museum’s first-floor lobby and special exhibition hall.
This event is divided into sharing and hands-on activities. The sharing event will take place from 1 PM to 5 PM in the museum lobby and permanent exhibition hall. Visitors who wear Hanbok and find the hidden blue snake in the permanent exhibition hall, then upload a proof photo with a hashtag on SNS, will receive a museum coloring book on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 200 people over two days.
Various hands-on programs are also prepared in the museum lobby and special exhibition hall. On the 29th, Lunar New Year’s Day, from 1 PM to 3 PM in the lobby, families can participate in a calligraphy activity to write family mottos, strengthening family bonds. On both the 29th and 30th, from 1 PM to 5 PM in the lobby, the "New Year's Card Decorating" program will allow participants to create and send personalized New Year’s cards to family, friends, or loved ones.
Additionally, several craft programs designed to engage family visitors will be offered in the special exhibition hall. At 2 PM on both days, the "Lunar New Year Game Making" program will allow participants to make traditional games such as spinning tops and Tuho. At 3 PM, the "Lunar New Year Decoration Making" program will offer the chance to create traditional clothing items like Hanbok capes and wish ornaments.
Participation in the craft activities is available through on-site registration starting at 1 PM on the day of the event. The material cost for each activity is 1,000 won.
Traditional folk games can also be experienced in the museum’s outdoor yard throughout the event period. Visitors can try out traditional games that are rarely encountered in daily life, such as rolling hoops, ring toss, Tuho, Yutnori, and Jegichagi.
Lim Chanhyuk, director of the Gwangju History and Folk Museum, stated, “We have prepared a variety of sharing and hands-on programs to offer citizens the energy of new challenges and growth symbolized by the blue snake,” and added, “We hope that a visit to the museum during the Lunar New Year holiday will be a time to fill your heart with hope.”
