Among 58 Suspects in Western District Court Riot, 56 Detained on "Flight Risk" Concerns
Detention Denied for Two Due to No Risk of Flight or Evidence Tampering
Among the 58 people who broke into the Seoul Western District Court and caused a disturbance, 56 were detained.
According to the Seoul Western District Court on the 22nd, Judges Hong Daseon and Kang Younggi held pre-arrest detention hearings (warrant substantive examinations) for these individuals the previous day and issued detention warrants for 56 out of the 58, citing concerns over flight risk. Two individuals accused of trespassing in a shared residence were exempted from detention as there was no concern of flight or evidence tampering.
The Seoul Western District Court explained, "In this case, considering that some suspects' charges might include intrusion into the warrant-dedicated judge's office, the warrant-dedicated judge did not conduct the hearings."
Earlier, the police arrested a total of 90 people in connection with the disturbance at the Western District Court and applied for detention warrants for 66 of them. The prosecution requested detention warrants for 63 individuals, excluding two accused of trespassing and one accused of obstructing official duties.
