Changwon Special City Takes First Step for Decentralized Special Zone Regulatory Exemption Area
Agreement Signed to Promote the Designation of a Distributed Energy Specialized Area
On the 21st, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam signed an agreement to promote the designation of a 'Distributed Energy Specialized Area' with Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea South-East Power, Gyeongnam Energy, Changwon Nuri Energy, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, and Gyeongnam Technopark.
A 'Distributed Energy Specialized Area' refers to a region where power producers using distributed energy sources can supply electricity directly to users without going through the power market. It is a national policy introduced to minimize the construction of transmission networks and improve power system stability within the region by balancing power supply and demand at the local level.
The city is reviewing national and general industrial complexes within Changwon, such as Changwon Dongjeon Industrial Complex and Deoksan Industrial Complex, as prospective sites for the Distributed Energy Specialized Area, and plans to install renewable energy facilities such as hydrogen fuel cells and solar power.
