Israel Resumes Airstrikes on Gaza Strip... "Ceasefire Will Not Take Effect Without Hamas Fulfilling Obligations" (Comprehensive)
Ceasefire Delayed Amid Tensions Over Hostage List
The Palestinian armed group Hamas has delayed the implementation of the ceasefire scheduled for the 19th with Israel by not disclosing the identities of the three hostages set to be released.
Israel resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of failing to fulfill its obligations under the agreement. In a statement issued after the ceasefire was supposed to take effect at 8:30 a.m., the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said, "IDF artillery and aircraft are conducting operations," and "several terrorist targets in northern and central Gaza were attacked."
The IDF also stated, "We are prepared for both defense and offense," and "we will not tolerate any harm to Israeli civilians."
Daniel Hagari, the IDF spokesperson, explained, "Until this morning, Hamas has not fulfilled its obligations under the agreement," adding, "Hamas has not provided the names of the female hostages returning to Israel, and the ceasefire will not take effect unless this condition is met."
Hagari further added, "Under the Prime Minister's instructions, the IDF will continue operations in the Gaza area using all means until Hamas fulfills its obligations."
Major foreign media outlets, citing local medical personnel, reported that at least eight people were killed and 25 injured in Gaza due to an Israeli drone strike.
Hamas, through Russian news agencies TASS and Sputnik, stated that the submission of the list has been delayed due to "technical issues" and will be delivered within a few hours.
Originally, both sides had agreed on the 15th to gradually release a total of 33 hostages over 42 days starting from that day.
