Government and Companies Contribute to Travel Expenses... 'Worker Vacation Support' Recruitment
When a Worker Saves 200,000 Won, Both the Company and Government Add 100,000 Won Each
Over Seven Years, 70,000 Companies and 670,000 Workers Have Participated
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will begin recruiting companies to participate in the ‘Worker Vacation Support’ program starting from the 24th. This initiative aims to foster a free vacation culture within workplaces and encourage domestic travel among workers. When a worker saves 200,000 won, their affiliated company and the government each add 100,000 won. A total of 400,000 won is supported for use as domestic travel expenses.
Over the past seven years, about 70,000 small and medium-sized enterprises and approximately 670,000 workers have participated in the program. According to a survey conducted last year, 55.2% of workers took domestic trips they had not planned before because of this program. They spent about 8.9 times the government support amount of 100,000 won on travel expenses, contributing to the revitalization of domestic tourism.
With proven effectiveness, the government decided at last year’s ‘National Tourism Strategy Meeting’ to increase the support scale from 65,000 to 150,000 people. The target includes workers at small and medium-sized enterprises, small business owners, non-profit private organizations, and social welfare corporations and facilities. Applications are accepted on a company basis through the Worker Vacation Support program website.

To encourage more participation from small and medium-sized enterprises, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism excluded mid-sized companies from the support targets. Additionally, the contribution fee for companies participating for five consecutive years was raised from 100,000 won to 150,000 won. Participating companies receive benefits such as bonus points when applying for various government certifications like ‘Leisure-Friendly Certification’ and ‘Excellent Work-Life Balance Company.’
