Tesla Cybertruck Joins the Electric Vehicle Discount Competition
American electric vehicle company Tesla has joined the discount sales competition for its electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck.
According to CNBC on the 15th (local time), Tesla announced on its website that discounted prices will be applied to the new Cybertruck starting this week.
The new Cybertruck will be discounted up to $1,600 (approximately 2.3 million KRW) depending on options, and up to about $2,600 (approximately 3.8 million KRW) for display models.
According to U.S. automotive market research firm Cox Automotive, the Cybertruck ranked 5th in electric vehicle sales in the U.S. last year, surpassing Ford's competing model, the Lightning F-150.
It is estimated that about 38,965 Cybertrucks were sold in the U.S. last year. The Cybertruck is currently sold only in North America.
The Cybertruck was expected to be Tesla's growth engine, but CNBC pointed out that its high price and repeated recalls are obstacles to growth.
