Uljin-gun Expands Rental Support for Agricultural Machinery Up to 75%, the Highest Nationwide
50% Support for Agricultural Machinery Rental Fees from Hanul Headquarters
and 25% Reduction by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Starting January This Year
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will expand support for agricultural machinery rental fees starting January 2025, with a cost-sharing ratio of 50% support from Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters, 25% reduction by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and 25% burden on farmers.
This follows the recent revision of the ordinance to increase agricultural machinery rental fees. The county decided on this through the ‘Uljin-gun-Hanul Headquarters Win-Win Development Council’ to minimize the burden on farmers.
Until 2024, the agricultural machinery rental fees were supported with a 50% reduction by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and a 50% burden on farmers. From January 2025, the support will be expanded to 50% from Hanul Headquarters, 25% reduction by the Ministry, and 25% burden on farmers.
The reason for revising the ordinance to increase agricultural machinery rental fees was due to the 2023 joint government audit results, which found that 10 cities and counties including Uljin-gun, Pohang-si, and Sangju-si were operating rental fee collection ordinances in violation of higher laws. The audit recommended revising the ordinances and warned that failure to comply could result in significant disadvantages such as reductions in national subsidies and local allocation taxes.
Accordingly, Uljin-gun inevitably completed the revision of the rental fee increase ordinance on December 30, 2024, to comply with higher laws, resulting in a substantial increase in agricultural machinery rental fees compared to before.
To minimize the burden on farmers, promote the use of agricultural machinery in farming sites, and address rural aging and labor shortages, Uljin-gun took proactive measures by submitting the ‘2024 Uljin-gun & Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters Win-Win Development Council’ agenda, securing 50% support for agricultural machinery rental fees from Hanul Headquarters starting January 2025.
Additionally, considering the difficult agricultural conditions at the government level, the rental fee reduction has been extended until December 2025. Despite the ordinance revision to increase rental fees, this has resulted in a decrease in the rental fees borne by farmers compared to before. However, agricultural machinery delivery fees are excluded from the support.

County Governor Son Byung-bok stated, “Although the revision of the ordinance to increase agricultural machinery rental fees was expected to cause economic difficulties for local farmers, thanks to the half-price support from Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters and the extension of government-level reductions, the burden on farmers has been greatly reduced, and I am grateful to everyone.”
