What’s Going On With the Winter 'Mosquito' Hunt?... 'Disinfection Task Force' Appears in the Heart of Seoul
Eco-Friendly Larva Control Project Focused on Densely Populated Residential Areas
Apply for Mosquito Pest Control Communication Phone Service Until March
"Removing one mosquito larva is equivalent to eliminating 500 adult mosquitoes."
"During the thawing period, such as in winter, mosquitoes mainly stay in warm environments like underground sewers and septic tanks, so conducting pest control during this time can be highly effective."
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is launching a winter mosquito larva removal campaign. From this month until April, an eco-friendly larva control project will be implemented to strengthen pest control, focusing on densely populated residential areas.
Jung-gu plans to apply eco-friendly larvicide mainly in small-scale residential areas such as single-family houses, villas, and row houses, with a focus on managing septic tanks intensively. Mosquito nets will be installed on septic tank ventilation openings to block mosquito breeding routes at the source.
The application process is simple. Residents can send their name and address via text message to the "Mosquito Pest Control Communication Phone," or apply by phone or in person through the Jung-gu Public Health Center and local community service centers. The application period is from the 15th of this month to March 31.
Once the application is completed, the "Visiting Pest Control Task Force" will be dispatched to carry out larva control work directly. After pest control is completed, results will be provided via text message to enhance convenience for residents.
Jung-gu’s winter pest control has already received enthusiastic responses from residents. Last year, a total of 2,107 larva control operations were conducted, with a resident satisfaction rate of 88.1%. In particular, 87.8% of residents felt a reduction in summer mosquitoes, and 99.3% expressed their intention to participate again in next year’s project.
District Mayor Kim Gil-seong stated, "We will prepare thoroughly from winter for mosquito-free summer nights," and added, "We will continue to provide pest control services that residents can truly feel."
