Gwangju Science High School Runs 'Global Science Exchange' Program
Wilhelm Ostwald Gymnasium in Germany
Expanding Global Scientific Exchange and Cultural Understanding through Sister School Programs
Gwangju Science High School operated the "2024 Global Science Exchange Program (GSEP)" together with its sister school, Wilhelm Ostwald Gymnasium (WOG) in Leipzig, Germany, from the 5th to the 12th of this month.
According to the city education office on the 14th, this program was organized as part of the "Global Science Exchange Program" agreement signed last September between Gwangju Science High School and WOG to enhance students' international cooperation skills and scientific literacy.
Sixteen first-year students from Gwangju Science High School experienced local life and culture by staying with German partner families and explored major historical sites in Leipzig, deepening their understanding of German culture.
Additionally, they presented research results from the past year, such as "The Impact of Temperature Changes on Astronomical Seeing" and "Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities of Houttuynia Cordata Depending on Various Extraction Methods," followed by Q&A sessions and discussions with German students.
One participating student shared, "By staying with a German family, I was able to experience German culture firsthand and learned a lot by sharing research with WOG students. Through this exchange, I gained confidence in scientific research and international cooperation."
Lee Kanggil, principal of Gwangju Science High School, stated, "Through this exchange, our students were able to broaden their international perspectives and develop scientific thinking. We will continue to support students so they can grow into global leaders through various global programs."
Meanwhile, in May, WOG students are scheduled to visit Gwangju Science High School, where they will explore the Gwangju area and participate in science programs and Korean cultural activities prepared by the school.
