Ulsan Office of Education to Conduct Intensive Wage Arrears Inspection Ahead of Seollal Holiday
Verification of Subcontractor Payments and Worker Wages
Prompt Execution and Operation of Online and Offline Reporting Centers
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) will conduct an intensive inspection from the 13th to the 24th over 12 days to check for wage arrears at public construction sites of educational institutions in the Ulsan area.
The inspection targets are based on the "Ordinance on Prevention of Wage Arrears for Public Construction Projects by the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education," covering projects worth 500 million KRW or more (300 million KRW for non-comprehensive construction) and service contracts worth 100 million KRW or more (excluding academic services), totaling 51 cases (approximately 34.4 billion KRW).
Every year, ahead of major holidays, the Ulsan Office of Education conducts focused inspections to prevent wage arrears for construction workers and delays in payment for materials and equipment rentals at construction sites.
This year as well, they have established the "Measures to Prevent Wage Arrears for Public Construction Projects in Preparation for the Lunar New Year Holiday," guiding all related departments and institutions (schools) within the Ulsan Office of Education to promptly execute payments for construction and service contracts before the holiday.
During the intensive inspection period, the Ulsan Office of Education will, according to the implementation plan, promptly pay subcontractor fees, wages, and equipment rental fees for construction and service projects, and verify whether the payments made by the primary contractors were properly distributed to subcontractors and construction workers.
A reporting center for wage arrears related to public construction projects will also be operated. The "Wage Arrears Online Reporting Center" is available on the Ulsan Office of Education website, and reports can also be submitted by phone or in writing to the Finance and Welfare Division’s Accounting Team.
With a temporary extension of special measures until June, to prevent local economic downturn due to inflation and high interest rates, the inspection and payment periods will be shortened. The inspection period will be reduced from within 14 days to within 7 days, and the payment period from within 5 days to within 3 days, to ensure prompt payment of subcontractor fees and worker wages.
