Hong Seonggil, president of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Badminton Association, has succeeded in being re-elected for a third consecutive term.
In the association's presidential election held on the 6th, President Hong secured a total of 26 votes, defeating candidate Kim Sangjin (former president of the Gwangju Nam-gu Badminton Association), who received 16 votes.
With this, President Hong will serve as the second and third president since being elected as the inaugural president of the Gwangju City Badminton Association in 2017.
During the election process, President Hong attracted support with pledges such as promoting a sports academy foundation, continuously expanding both recreational and international competitions, and constructing a dedicated badminton stadium for An Seyoung.
During his tenure, President Hong has devoted himself to nurturing local badminton players, and his achievement in developing An Seyoung into not only a national representative but also a world-class player stands out as a significant accomplishment. Additionally, since 2017, he has contributed to the development of local badminton by attracting the Gwangju Korea Masters International Badminton Championships and, for the first time in the country, hosting an international tournament in the same region for six consecutive years.
President Hong stated, "Although there were difficulties during the election process, I was able to succeed in winning a third term thanks to those who believed in and supported me," adding, "I will do my best to construct a dedicated stadium for An Seyoung and to further expand the base of badminton in the region."
