People Power Party to Launch Fundraising for Families of Passenger Plane Disaster Victims
Kwon Young-se "We Will Share the Grief of the Bereaved Families"
The People Power Party decided on the 2nd to raise party-level donations to support the bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do.
At the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Emergency Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se said, "There is a saying that sharing sorrow halves it, and we want to share the pain of the bereaved families together," he said.
Chairman Kwon stated, "During the national mourning period, all party-affiliated members of the National Assembly are visiting Muan International Airport to pay tribute to the victims and offer condolences to the bereaved families," adding, "We will carefully ensure that the prompt handling of the accident and support for the bereaved families are not lacking."
Measures to support the bereaved families, including living, medical, psychological counseling support, and healing leave for workers, have also been initiated. Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong said, "We will work with the government to ensure prompt support is provided," emphasizing, "If necessary, we will also consider special legislation and a national audit at the National Assembly level."
Floor Leader Kwon also said, "After meeting the bereaved families directly, I learned that fake news defaming and slandering the families is spreading," and urged the authorities for swift investigation and strict punishment, calling it "a criminal act that drives another nail into the grief of losing a family member."
