Acting Chief Choi Sang-mok Visits Frontline Border Area... Inspects North Korea Defense Posture
Encouraging Soldiers and Having Lunch Together
Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Strategy and Finance, inspected the North Korean border security posture in the frontline border area and encouraged the troops on the first day of the new year.
On the day, Acting President Choi visited the 2nd Marine Division located in Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province, saying, "I came to express my gratitude to the soldiers of the 2nd Marine Division who steadfastly protect the frontline of the Seoul metropolitan area," and added, "The sweat and efforts you shed ultimately create everyday peace and stability for the people." The 2nd Marine Division is located in an area where North Korean loudspeakers can be observed with the naked eye. He also said, "Thank you for carrying out your duties without any disruption despite North Korea's trash balloons and noise devices aimed at South Korea."

Acting President Choi then moved to the North Korean surveillance post to observe the terrain on the North Korean side and had lunch with the soldiers at the 1st Brigade Headquarters. Accompanying him on the site visit were Kim Seon-ho, Acting Minister of National Defense, Joo Il-seok, Commander of the Marine Corps, and Choi Byung-ok, Defense Secretary of the National Security Office.
