When an arrest warrant was issued against President Yoon Suk-yeol, a commotion broke out as citizens advocating for and against impeachment gathered in front of the presidential residence.
On the 31st, in front of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, citizens opposing impeachment and those supporting it gathered and clashed with the police in between. In particular, supporters of President Yoon appeared agitated as they attempted to charge at the participants of the pro-impeachment rally or pushed against the police's order maintenance line.

View original imageFrom around noon, conservative groups such as the New Freedom Solidarity began singing the national anthem near the residence. Rally participants shouted slogans like "Impeachment Null and Void" and "Warrant Null and Void" while holding American and Korean flags.
Police deployed riot squad buses and minibuses in front of the main gate of the presidential residence, forming a barricade.
As of 1:30 PM that day, the police estimated about 2,500 people from the New Freedom Solidarity and around 500 from the United Right-Wing Coalition rally had gathered. The organizers estimated the number of participants to be about 10,000.

Earlier, the joint investigation headquarters, composed of the police and the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (Gongsoocheo), requested an arrest warrant for President Yoon at midnight the previous day. The court issued the warrant at 9:52 AM the following day. President Yoon was charged with leading a rebellion and abuse of authority. This is the first time in constitutional history that an arrest warrant has been issued against a sitting president.
