Boseong County to Provide 'Basic Birth Allowance' Starting Next Year
200,000 Won Monthly for Children Born After January 1, 2024
Boseong County, Jeollanam-do announced on the 31st that it will begin full-scale payment of the Basic Birth Allowance starting January 2025 to overcome the low birthrate crisis and support families with children.
The "Jeollanam-do-Boseong County Basic Birth Allowance" provides 200,000 won per month to households that register a birth in Jeollanam-do after January 1, 2024, and where both parents and the child have their address in Boseong County, for children aged 1 to 18.
Unless the parents and child move to another municipality, a total of 43.2 million won will be provided from 2025, with 200,000 won per month for children aged 1 to 18.
Of the 200,000 won, 100,000 won supported by Jeollanam-do is provided in cash, while the 100,000 won supported by Boseong County is given as a mobile Boseong Love Gift Certificate.
Applications can be made starting from the 11th month after the child's birth. Anyone can apply regardless of income, with minimal documents and procedures required, making it more accessible for families raising children.
The county expects that by providing long-term and stable child-rearing support until the child becomes an adult, it will create an environment where parents can raise their children with peace of mind and help address the issue of population decline.
In addition, this direct financial support is expected to be a tangible benefit for families raising children, reducing their economic burden and promoting local consumption.
Kim Cheolwoo, the governor of Boseong County, said, "The Basic Birth Allowance is an important first step in preparing for the future of Boseong County," and added, "As this policy was established to proactively address the issue of population decline, we ask for the active interest and applications from our residents."
