Since stable financial support is essential to conduct globally competitive research in key future industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation semiconductors, bio healthcare, and renewable energy, the scale of research funding secured is a representative indicator of a university's research capabilities.
Since President Park Sang-gyu took office in 2020, Chung-Ang University has set the transition to a research-oriented university as a major goal and has made full efforts to create a convergent research environment and strengthen the research support system.
Chung-Ang University's achievements stand out in advanced fields. This year, the university was consecutively selected for major national projects such as the Advanced Materials-Nano Convergence Innovation Convergence University Project, the Metaverse Convergence Graduate School Support Project, and the University ICT Research Center Development Support Project. These large-scale national project wins lead to an increase in research funding.
The university is also securing differentiated competitiveness from other universities through interdisciplinary approaches via convergent research. By integrating a wide range of academic fields including humanities, science and engineering, arts and physical education, and medical sciences, it is producing original research outcomes in various advanced fields such as AI, new materials, and biotechnology.
Additionally, based on Seoul City's "University Space Innovation Plan," Chung-Ang University will begin construction in 2025 of the "Natural and Engineering Research Cluster," a facility with 13 above-ground floors, 5 underground floors, and a total floor area of approximately 59,500 square meters. The Natural and Engineering Research Cluster, which will provide an optimal environment for advanced technology research, is expected to significantly expand Chung-Ang University's research competitiveness and become a research hub for future advanced industries.
Chung-Ang University plans to continue expanding research funding and strengthening research competitiveness to produce practical and innovative research outcomes needed by the nation and society, and to advance as a global research-oriented university.
