Support for low-ranking junior civil servants, child-rearing, and field civil servants will be strengthened next year. The starting salary for Grade 9 civil servants will exceed 2 million won for the first time.
The Ministry of Personnel Management announced that the amendment to the Civil Servant Salary Regulations and the Regulations on Civil Servant Allowances, which include these details, was approved at the Cabinet meeting on the 31st.
According to the amendment, civil servant salaries will increase by 3.0% next year.
The starting salary for Grade 9 (Step 1) will be raised by 6.6% compared to the previous year, and salaries for low-ranking junior civil servants from Grades 7 to 9 will be further increased.
Through this, the starting salary for Grade 9 will exceed 2 million won for the first time.
The total compensation for Grade 9 starting civil servants, including salary and allowances, will be 32.22 million won annually, averaging about 2.69 million won per month. This is expected to be a 7% (2.12 million won) increase compared to this year's 30.10 million won annually.
Support related to low birth rates and child-rearing conditions will also be improved.
The upper limit of childcare leave allowance, currently paid up to 1.5 million won per month, will be significantly raised to allow payments up to 2.5 million won, enabling civil servants to receive more than 5 million won additionally per year in childcare leave allowance.
Furthermore, to encourage both parents to take childcare leave and to establish a stable childcare environment, if both parents take childcare leave for more than three months, or in the case of single-parent families or parents of children with disabilities, the childcare leave allowance payment period will be extended from the current 12 months to 18 months.
In addition, the risk duty allowance paid to police and fire service civil servants will be increased from 60,000 won to 70,000 won per month, and a new monthly 30,000 won civil service task allowance will be introduced to protect and boost the morale of civil servants handling civil complaints, thereby strengthening support for field civil servants.
