Uljin-gun Cancels New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony and 2025 Sunrise Event
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will cancel the ‘2024 New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony’ and the ‘2025 Sunrise Viewing Event’ to join the national mourning following the Jeju Air disaster.
However, for visitors coming to Uljin to see the sunrise, a warming booth will be set up and free rice cake soup (tteokguk) will be distributed.
The sunrise events originally scheduled in each town and township, including Hyeonnae Port in Uljin, Wolsongjeong in Pyeonghae, and Deungisan Park in Hupo, will be significantly scaled down. Performances, fireworks, and other festivities will not take place, and only ceremonial procedures such as providing tteokguk and New Year rites will be quietly conducted.
In preparation for tourists and residents who visit individually to watch the sunrise, safety inspections near the event sites will be strengthened, and a cooperative system with related organizations will be maintained to thoroughly prevent safety accidents.
