Jeju Air Apologizes for Muan Airport Incident, Pledges to Make Every Effort
Jeju Air apologized on the morning of the 29th for the accident that occurred at Muan International Airport in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
Jeju Air posted a notice on its website on the same day, stating, "We apologize for causing concern and will do our best to address this accident."
Jeju Air also provided contact information for inquiries from passengers' families and the public relations center. Families of passengers can verify information by providing the reservation number, boarding date, and name.
The accident occurred at around 9:03 a.m. when Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land on the runway at Muan Airport but crashed. The aircraft collided with the outer wall of the runway, breaking in half and catching fire.
The aircraft involved was a B737-800, carrying a total of 181 people, including 175 passengers and 6 crew members. Fire authorities began searching from the rear of the aircraft and have rescued 2 people so far. The death toll has been reported as 62 (25 men and 37 women). The number of casualties and injuries is expected to rise.
