Yangpyeong-gun Wins Grand Prize in Environment Category at Korea ESG Awards
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 27th that it was honored to receive the 'Grand Prize' in the Environment category for local governments at the '2024 Korea ESG Awards Ceremony' held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building Grand Conference Room on the 23rd.

View original imageNow in its second year, the Korea ESG Awards, jointly hosted by the Korea ESG Society and Electronic Times, is the most prestigious award in the domestic ESG field. It is given to institutions and individuals who have achieved outstanding results in pursuing sustainable development and social responsibility in the areas of Environment, Social, and Governance.
This year, a total of 44 institutions and individuals were selected, with four institutions chosen in the local government category. Among them, Yangpyeong-gun was honored with the Grand Prize in the Environment category.
Throughout this year, Yangpyeong-gun has strived to create a sustainable and attractive Yangpyeong by △establishing a basic strategy and implementation plan for sustainable development and introducing ESG indicators △being selected as the first ‘Environmental Education City’ at the county level △operating the first sustainable development university leadership course for heads of institutions and organizations in local governments △conducting sustainable development (ESG) education for public officials △and promoting the publication of the Yangpyeong ESG Report.
Governor Jeon Jin-seon said, “The results of the projects promoted to realize an attractive Yangpyeong in the 8th elected term are emerging,” adding, “We will make greater efforts to lead sustainable development and ESG together with the residents through this award.”

Meanwhile, the county plans to publish the Yangpyeong ESG Report in January next year to analyze the progress of initiatives and implement policies for the development of ESG in Yangpyeong-gun.
