A private company’s plan to operate a quarry in the Yongin area of Gyeonggi Province, which had been pushed forward despite opposition from local residents and local governments, has been denied.
According to Yongin City on the 24th, the Mining Adjustment Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy dismissed the 'cancellation request for the non-approval of the mining plan' filed by Company A for the quarry operation project in the area of San 26-3, Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu.

The committee added that the quarry site is clearly an area where a 'temporary mountain use permit' for open-pit mining is not possible, making it difficult to recognize the validity of the company’s open-pit mining plan.
Previously, Company A filed a cancellation request with the committee, appealing against Yongin City’s opposition and Gyeonggi Province’s disapproval, which holds the authority to approve the mining plan. In response, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin sent a letter earlier this month to Minister Anduk-geun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stating that “if the quarry is established, there will be significant public harm such as deterioration of the residential environment in nearby areas and infringement on the learning rights of students at nearby schools,” and has opposed the quarry development.
During the review of Company A’s objection in July, the committee postponed the decision, judging that the facts and legal relationships regarding the main issues were unclear, but ultimately made a final dismissal decision.
