Kim Dong-yeon Meets British Ambassador, Says "Political Turmoil Being Resolved Through Democratic Means"
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with Colin Crooks, the British Ambassador to Korea, on the 24th to discuss cooperation measures between Gyeonggi Province and the United Kingdom, as well as the current domestic situation.
During the meeting, Governor Kim emphasized, "Korea is resolving political turmoil such as martial law lifting and presidential impeachment through democratic means." He also expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement from Korea's allied countries regarding the democratic procedures and proposed, "Let us continue to closely consult and maintain interest in the progress of democratic processes."
In response, Ambassador Crooks said, "We are closely monitoring the situation in Korea and appreciate that Korea's constitutional procedures are underway," adding, "As global strategic partners, we look forward to continuing close cooperation between Korea and the United Kingdom."

View original imageThe two exchanged views on various topics including global affairs and economic issues, reaffirming the necessity of cooperation between the two countries. In particular, they agreed to continue close communication and cooperation in various fields such as climate change response and advanced industries.
Before his appointment to Korea in February 2022, Ambassador Crooks served as the British Ambassador to North Korea. From 1995 to 1999, he worked as a secretary at the British Embassy in Korea and is recognized as a Korea expert who managed the overall arrangements during Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Korea.
Since taking office, Governor Kim has strengthened friendly and cooperative relations with the United Kingdom through various high-level exchanges. Starting with a meeting with the British Ambassador to Korea in July 2022, he maintained close relations through important meetings and events such as offering condolences at the British Embassy upon Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September of the same year, meeting with the UK Climate Envoy in October, and Ambassador Crooks’ participation in the DMZ Peace Walk.
In November 2022, Governor Kim delivered a congratulatory speech at the Korea-UK Association reception hosted by Ambassador Crooks and held a meeting with John Whittingdale, the UK Trade Envoy, in 2023.
